The moon has fascinated humans since the dawn of man. In a seemingly never-ending rhythm it orbits around us. It controls our tides, our climate, our calendars - and maybe someday humans might even call it home. The Orbiting Bodies Typeface is an ode to our favorite natural satellite.
I was inspired by old physics diagrams from the cold war, early maps of the solar system, and retrofuturism. I am fascinated with NASAs Artemis program, the program dedicated to pioneering the moon. With life as we know it here on Earth slowly crumbling around us, as part of the younger generation, I can’t help but turn my hopes to moon colonization.
With that inspiration in mind, I wanted to create a typeface that was recognizably related to astronomy and lunar bodies, but still readable and interesting as a display typeface.
